The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides free income tax preparation for individuals and families who earn less than $55,000 annually. Volunteers receive 20 hours of IRS-Certified training to process tax refunds back to hard working San Antonians.
The new tax day is July 15, 2020. Guadalupe Community Center is still operating as a VITA location providing free income tax assistance. To ensure safety as this time, clients can drop off tax documents for free tax preparation through the VITA drive-thru. Tax returns are typically prepared and returned within 72 hours.
A coalition between the City of San Antonio Department of Human Services, United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County, and Catholic Charities of San Antonio helps hard working families by providing this free tax preparation service to help them claim earned income tax credit to secure their financial future. With their hard-earned tax refund, individuals and families subsidize living expenses, pay debt, and are even empowered to place a deposit on transportation or housing.
The Guadalupe Community Center VITA office also provides free ITIN processing, a $150 value, that provides clients with an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number to those who do not have a Social Security Number paving a way to employment and tax payment.
Catholic Charities of San Antonio is also the only organization to provide a VITA Mobile Team that provides free tax help to businesses with employees earning less than $55,000 annually.
